The wind at my back, the sun in my soul and the kite still in the trapeze. New Year’s Bernina came out perfectly. The wind was very gusty and it was blowing about between 2 – 12 m/s, but the compensation of the beautiful views and the Sun was enough.

In action this time was a novelty from AEROS, a kite S1 Touring in 6qm size and we must say that even in this “strict” wind it proved itself and let us have a nice ride. The kite has a huge wind range and even in light winds it behaves very well. When the bar is pulled away, even in high gusts, the kite has a little pull and handles well. The kite spins smoothly kiteloops and the 6qm size is about the performance of a classic 10qm open chamber. A big advantage is the safety of the kite and the smooth dropping of the kite to the ground and cancellation of the pull, in virtually any wind. We have flown the 6qm size with Margaret (55kg) in winds up to 12 m/s and the kite has flown at less than 2 m/s. It is true that the surface was frozen.

We further tested the Dragon in the challenging terrain of alpine peaks, on the more than 2000m high peak of the Kaiserburg – Wollanernock mountains (see photo).

The kite is made of classic skytex, with ripstop and has a reinforced leading edge.

For the kite we used AEROS bar from OA – open air edition, where the bar is not fitted with a classic chicken loop, but with a much stronger and more reliable carabiner system. OA system is recommended for ski mountaineers and those who do the discipline “kiteflying”. We can also supply the kite with a carbon bar and get the complete weight of the equipment – kite, lines, bar – under 1 kg!
