Tyrol Kite Trip

Join us at the venues of several World Snowkiting Championships and discover beautiful locations perfect for snowkiting. Three lakes, relatively close to each other, three different locations and different conditions for snowkiting.

We go to Tyrol several times a winter and this kiteTRIP has been popular since 2014. The camp is intended for beginners (we recommend that they take at least a one-day course in the Czech Republic before departure), intermediate and advanced kiters.

Lago di Resia – Reschensee

Beautiful lake with many activities such as a skating track, cross-country skiing or skiing in the adjacent resort. Several European and World Snowkiting Championships have been held on this lake. The lake freezes over the winter and the ice thickness can be up to 40 cm. In the surroundings you will find beautiful panoramas, swimming and relaxing in the pool and excursions to the surrounding Tyrolean villages. 

Lago di Resia is suitable in your beginning snowkiting for several reasons:

It is a flat and huge area (6 km long and more than 1 km wide), which is widely used for courses by local schools. There is plenty of room for many kiters and activities to do and you really don’t have to worry about having to constantly dodge someone or something. Snowkiting here is very safe in this respect. A big plus is that the valley winds blow here almost every day and the weather is usually nice.

Right next to Lago di Resia or Reschensee we will be staying with a caravan. Half-day, full-day or multi-day planing of the slopes, which are right next to our parking lot, or a possible skialp trip (possibly with snowshoes), or other activities such as freeride or sledging are not excluded. We can get to the higher parts with beautiful views of the surroundings. However, the main program is to improve in snowkiting and kite riding.

Bernina pass

Bernina is a renowned snowkiting spot, located 110 km by road from Reschensee and at an altitude of 2330 m above sea level.  There are spectacular views of the glacier, a good Italian restaurant, parking and free internet.  Lago di Bianco in Berina Passo and the surrounding mountain peaks are then our destination in the next part of the camp and only if the weather forecast for this location is good. Bernina’s altitude usually provides us with plenty of powder and plenty of wind. In the Bernina Pass area, the plan is to enjoy snowkiting for 1 or more days (depending on ability, agreement and especially the weather forecast).

Silvaplana

Lake Silvaplana is located down in the valley, a short distance from St. Moritz. It is exceptional for several reasons. The valley winds work quite well here, i.e. when it is not blowing up on Bernina and the weather is nice, the thermals “go” down to Silvaplana, which is 30 km away from Lago Bianco. There are also several local kite schools located on Silvaplana, and almost always in good conditions you share space with other kiters. The lake is big, you can fit in without any problems. 

CAMP PROGRAM:

The day of the ride will be determined in the week according to the weather forecast (most likely it will be Monday or Tuesday)

Day 1 – very early morning departure to Reschensee (arrival after noon and snowkiting)

Day 2; 3; 4; 5- snowkiting on Lago di Resia, possibly Haidersee, Bernina, Silvaplana (according to the forecast)

Day 5 – departure to the Czech Republic after noon to be in the Czech Republic before midnight

1 day of the following – relaxation day (skialpy, snowshoeing, swimming pool, skating, skiing or snowkiting)

The rest day can be adapted to the forecast and the current weather. Of course, if you are interested in more days of skiing or other activities, there is no problem. Information about the local ski resort can be found at Here.
